There's no question the world must quickly and drastically slash emissions. But to avoid the worst effects of climate change, we can't stop there. The truth is, reducing emissions does nothing to address the more than two trillions tons of carbon already released into our atmosphere — the planet-warming legacy of 200 years of human activity.
The good news? Solutions are within reach. Using a spectrum of carbon removal methods — some already in practice, others in development — we can pull yesterday’s emissions out of the sky and store them in soils, rocks, trees, oceans, and products. Bringing existing solutions to scale and more to market will take a collective effort.
Working closely with policymakers, scientists, entrepreneurs, and our peer organizations, we design and champion policies that will bring carbon removal solutions to gigaton scale and establish the US as an international leader in an emerging industry. We're commited to doing so in a way that's good for communities and the environment.
Over the last seven years, our advocacy has helped put carbon removal on the map, catalyzing billions in new investments and pioneering some of the first major federal incentives. The industry is still only a fraction of where it needs to be. But with momentum growing and more policies, funding, and eyes on carbon removal than ever, our advocacy is turning the tide.
